Criminal Law

Jamie prosecutes and defends in the Crown Court and Magistrates' Courts. When prosecuting, he primarily acts for the CPS or the Probation Service. Jamie has experience of prosecuting for Revenue and Customs and the Department for Work and Pensions. In 2009, Jamie completed a secondment to the CPS where he assisted in a vast range of cases including sexual offences, serious violence and large-scale drugs offences. He advised on and prepared cases from charge through to confiscation. His knowledge of these offences was enhanced by attending in-house training courses.

When defending, Jamie has experience of a wide variety of cases, including grievous bodily harm, sexual assault, robbery, immigration offences, drugs, dishonesty and fraud. He also has extensive experience in the Youth Court dealing with young and vulnerable clients and witnesses as well as those requiring special measures.

Equine

Jamie has a particular interest in equestrian related legal matters. Jamie has ridden all his life; he has competed in all three disciplines. He is frequently involved with advising lay clients on countryside issues, particularly hunting and rights of way. Jamie is able to accept instructions involving all areas of equine law including personal injury work, liability arising under the Animals Act 1971, professional equine negligence, contractual disputes and non-contentious matters (livery, loan and grazing agreements).

Jamie has a broad knowledge of Animal Welfare legislation; he regularly instructed to act on behalf of clients facing prosecution by the RSPCA. He maintains a close working relationship with the 'Self Help Group for Farmers, Pet Owners and Others'.
