Professional Experience
Miss Hughes's practice encompasses both criminal and
civil law. She primarily undertakes defence caseload appearing in the
magistrates' court, youth court and the crown court throughout the
southeast of England. She routinely defends cases involving domestic
violence, public order, robbery, false instruments, social security
fraud and various forms of assaults.
She has been lead in serious cases such as murder, rape, firearm, child cruelty and drugs importation. In addition Miss Hughes has also undertaken probation work with some outstanding results, and prosecutes for the Crown Prosecution Service. Recently, Miss Hughes has defended very serious cases such as S18, wounding with intent and very high level fraud cases in excess of £100k.
She also frequently defends Judicial review cases in the High Court.
Her burgeoning civil practice concentrates on employment
and
immigration and includes a successful sex discrimination claim agains a
blue chip company. A number of contentious cases in employment law had
been settled before the court hearing based on the written advice to
solicitors.
